Sexy Selfies With Not So Sexy Outcomes

12:28 pm Monday, 14th April, 2014

Selfies or pictures of yourself by yourself, usually taken on a smart phone are all the rage these days. It’s never been easier to beam an image of yourself over to someone. Sub-branches of this craze are ‘sexy selfies’ and ‘after-sex selfies’, these are self-explanatory and pretty much do what they say on the tin. Kinky hey? As with everything though, there are dangers of sending images of this manner across telephone networks and the internet.

Don’t Screw Yourself Over

Now we can’t entirely figure out why anyone would publicly divulge an image of themselves and their lover following sex other than to be a rather narcissistic pain in the social media butt, however by doing this people are putting their privacy in jeopardy. Everyone from employers to people your nan’s age utilise social media sites. Are you happy for everyone you know, from the postman to your great auntie having access to you and your partner’s disheveled heads and naked bodies? What about the manager of the dream job you’ve applied for who may check out your Facebook as many employers do these days? By posting one silly photo you could ruin your chances of a fantastic opportunity, as to sum it up that picture will say everything to potential employers: arrogant, immature and unlikely to take a customer’s or the business’ privacy seriously if that’s their attitude to their own.

Don’t Get Screwed Over

Now ladies, (well ladies especially, fellas too but women are more of a target for this point), don’t send potentially compromising photos to your man FULL STOP. Just in case you’ve been hiding under a rock, there’s a bit of a trend these days and it’s called ‘revenge porn’. Entire sites are dedicated to it, disgruntled ex-boyfriends everywhere are posting up half naked to fully naked photos to these demoralising sites. Sometimes sexual acts are posted also, hence the name. You want to know the scariest thing? Once it’s up there, there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it. Legally, the photo belongs to the person who took it provided they had your consent, but with a sexy selfie you actually gave it to them! Don’t kid yourself into thinking it’s never going to happen to you, no-one would share a naked image of themselves if they thought there was any chance that they’d share it around the internet. They shouldn’t need an un-clothed picture of you anyway, the memory of your naked body should be enough to keep them going till the next time they see you. So if you ever get asked for a sexy selfie, flat out refuse and don’t feel bad about it at all! If they try to make you feel bad then they’re not worth it.

So everyone, the moral of our story is, don’t risk putting yourself in danger of becoming a victim of a growing epidemic, people have lost their careers, self-esteem and even killed themselves as a result of their image being taken advantage of online or simply from posting them up themselves. The Big Brother surveillance is creeping it’s way further into our private lives but fight it as much as you can and keep yourself from the turmoil that you would face should you become a victim of your own selfies.
