Painting your nails is fun, so put aside the time to enjoy yourself! Set the scene with some funky music, or put on your favorite TV show. 🎶📺 Invite your girlfriends round and have a nail-painting party. 🥳 Just make sure you let them dry before putting your fingers anywhere naughty… 😏 If you can help it! 😈
This isn’t an essential step, but it’s a good idea to protect your natural nails with a clear base coat first. 👌 Don’t worry, it doesn’t matter if this layer is a bit messy - no one’s gonna see it anyway! 😆
Let’s get our color on. 🎨
Place your brush in the middle of your nail, and drag it out towards the tip. Gradually move the starting point of your strokes downwards and out to the sides and repeat that upwards movement in long, flowing brushstrokes. 🖌️ Don’t worry if you slip up and get any on the skin around your nails - we’ll fix that later! 🙌
Want a stronger color? Go for a second coat. 💪 Paint all your nails with your first coat, and then by the time you’re finished with all ten fingers, the one you started with will be ready for coat #2! 👍
After you’ve coated the whole nail, wrap the tip. To do this, first remove the excess polish from your brush on the neck of your bottle. Then, paint gently around and underneath the tip of your nail. This will hold the color in and stop your nails from chipping later on! 😁
💡 Nail Tip: Accidental smudges? Don’t fret - lick your fingertip and brush your wet finger against the wet polish to smooth it all out. 👌
Finish your manicure with a top coat for a long-lasting manicure. 🌟 C’mon, we all love a top that lasts a long time. 😜
Once your colored polish is dry to the touch (around 10 minutes), paint your top coat over every nail with the same technique as above for extra-glossy, extra-shiny nails. 🙌
Wanna add some sparkle? ✨ Pick a top coat with a glitter or shimmer to make your nails pop. 💥
The key to a perfect manicure is waiting for your nails to dry! 🗝️ Give it at least a good half hour without touching anything to let everything set properly. ❌🖐️
This is where having the music or TV on really comes in handy. 👌
Now your nails are set and looking gorgeous, you can clean up any mistakes. Pick flakes of polish off your skin with a wooden manicure stick or toothpick. Failing that, any polish on your skin should just come off when you wash your hands! 🧼
When it comes time to take off your manicure, it’s pretty simple: soak a cotton pad with nail polish remover or acetone, and rub it over your fingernail until they’re all clear! ✨
Acetone is hella drying, so oil your nails after taking off polish to keep them strong. 💪 You can buy nail oil specially, use hair oil, or even olive oil from the kitchen! 🧴
